Review guidance from CDC, CMS and Nebraska HHS relative to investigating, monitoring, documenting and ontrolling infectious diseases. Discuss the national guidelines for control of antibiotic resis tant bacteria: MRSA, CDIF, DRSP, MDR-GNR’s (ESBL+ and CRE).
Respiratory Tract & Urinary Tract Infections
Present principles and etiologies of common-cold & influenza virus diseases.
Review the clinical signs and symptoms of commonly encountered infectious diseases in CBC residents and employees using the newest CDC definitions for surveillance.
Identify the two pneumococcal vaccines and discuss the current CDC recommendations for the two vaccines in the elderly.
Discuss the principles of an antibiotic stewardship program relative to the current CDC and CMS guidelines and regulations (F880).
Present insight into national recommendations for medical providers relative to clinical management of infectious diseases occurring in CBC residents including skin infections and infestations.
Identify and review principles of the CDC guidelines for environmental-surface disinfection and hand hygiene.
Discuss issues relative to employee health, e.g., prevention of exposure to pathogens, immunization against vaccine preventable diseases, and OSHA post-exposure protocol for bloodborne pathogens.
