House Committee on Financial Services Affordable Housing Markup

Beginning December 16, the House Committee on Financial Services will host a two-day markup to address affordable housing. "This month, the Financial Services Committee will advance solutions to tackle housing cost and access challenges for American families, homeowners, and renters. Next year, we look forward to working with our Senate colleagues to send a bill to the president’s desk that reflects the views of both chambers and leads to more affordable choices for America’s homeowners and renters," Committee Chairman French Hill (R-AR) said in a statement on the markup. The markup comes after the most recent version of the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), negotiated between House and Senate leaders, was released on December 7 without the housing provisions from the Senate's bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act, which passed the Senate on October 9 and for which LeadingAge had advocated. The most recent sweeping affordable housing reform legislation passed by Congress was the "Housing Opportunity Through Modernization Act (HOTMA)" in 2016. Since then, LeadingAge has been involved in legislative discussions and initiatives to further affordable housing policy. LeadingAge will stay engaged on the bills to be considered by the House Financial Services Committee on December 16 and 17, which include some proposals that would expand affordable housing for older adults, a LeadingAge priority.
